Fingerprinting/Background Checks

Criminal Background Check

The district's first priority is the well being and safety of our students. Criminal background checks will be conducted on all volunteers, interviewed applicants, and both licensed & classified substitutes. A background check is valid for 2 years. The fees associated with criminal background checks are paid by the district.

Fingerprinting

Oregon law requires all school district employees having direct unsupervised contact with students shall be required to submit a nationwide criminal records check and fingerprinting. Fees associated with fingerprinting shall be paid by the individual. This fee can be withheld from the employee's pay check.

The district shall begin the employment of an individual, volunteer service, or terms of a district contractor on a probationary basis pending the return and disposition of criminal records checks and/or fingerprinting. Fees associated with fingerprinting shall be paid by the individual. The amount can be withheld from the individuals paycheck.

Termination of Employment

Any individual required to submit to criminal records checks and/or fingerprinting in accordance with law and/or Board policy will be terminated from consideration as a district volunteer and employment or contract status by the Superintendent immediately upon the following:

  1. Refusal to consent to a criminal records check and/or fingerprinting or

  2. Notification by the Superintendent of Public Instruction or his/her designee or the State Board of Education that the employee has made a false statement as to conviction of a crime or conviction of crimes prohibiting employment with the district as specified in law.

Employment termination shall remove the individual form any district policies, collective bargaining provisions regarding dismissal procedures and appeals and the provisions of Accountability for School for the 21st Century Law.

Any individual newly hired after December 31, 1993 into a position determined to be subject to fingerprinting by the district shall begin employment on a probationary basis pending the return and disposition of criminal history records checks and/or fingerprinting.
